Life in May: Day Twenty Five

*Blogging everyday in May*

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Oh my, this post is going to come across super coincided. I hesitate to share it because you probably won’t even believe that this happens a lot!

Over the last few years I’ve made a complete style overhaul. When I first started teaching my wardrobe consisted of what I call young professional old lady. It was just so gosh darn hot my first years in Arizona, I had a hard time dressing for the heat! I won’t even share any pictures from that time, because it’s hard on the eyes! After immersing myself in blogs and pinterest, I consider my current style boho vintage glam. (I love my sparkles!)

Such a long lead up to a small compliment.

As I’ve changed my style, people started noticing. My coworkers were the first to pick up on the change. I hear you look so cute, where did you get that probably three times a week. Complete strangers in public have approached me while shopping to say the same thing! Once, a male Forever 21 employee said he liked my style. If that’s not a stamp of approval, I’ll eat my summer fedora.

No matter how many times I hear this, I have the hardest time taking the compliment. See, I still feel like that awkward girl who couldn’t dress to save her life. I had a friend in college who would get so angry when we would throw away her compliment. She would explain that by complimenting her friends she was affirming the way God saw us. Perfect and complete.

So now, I just say thank you very much! And go on my way.

New truer words have ever been spoken, or put on a t-shirt!

Life on Thursday

Here we go again for another round of Thursday Thoughts!

* This week has been fabulous! Birthdays, pool time, shopping, cooking and cleaning my house. (made me feel accomplished!)

*Speaking of shopping, have you ever heard of Last Chance?

Oh, you haven’t? Let me enlighten you. Last Chance is a dumping zone for all Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in the nation. It happens to be here in Phoenix. You can find amazing deals like $18.99 Toms. Seriously.

Life Lately

Life around here has been pretty steady the last few weeks. Now that May is officially upon us, these last days of school will happen in warp speed. I’ll hardly have time to catch my breath. Going to enjoy the down time while it lasts!

Here’s a picture dump of my life lately.

Love big earrings! I’m going to try to do a jewelry post soon.

When I don’t wear dresses, I realize that I have a uniform. Shirt, skinny jeans, flats. Nothing wrong with that!

Still my favorite pair of flats!

Still my favorite pair of running shoes!

Life on Thursday (or the one that introduces Holiday Cheese)

Three Cheers for Thursday! One step closer to the weekend.
Please snack on my list of random musings:

*If you follow me on twitter (@racheltoo2), you heard part of the holiday cheese story.
My Monday afternoon class was working diligently spending all their time talking to each other as all four year olds do, when one smarty pants thinks his life is a musical and he must burst into song. This is such a typical occurrence that I didn’t even comment on it. However, Mr. Song Writer’s lyrics caught my attentions “Holiday cheese, holiday cheese, I love you holiday cheese. Oh holiday cheese, oh holiday cheese, please get in my belly, you are so yummy!”
What the what? Where do they come up with this stuff? I wouldn’t be looking for his single to drop any day soon.

*There was ANOTHER bobcat at school this week. Of course, the kids “spotted” him allover campus for the rest of the day. And seriously, who announces that a bobcat is on campus over the intercom?
*Can I give a shot out to my new running shoes?

Actually, these babies probably deserve their own post, they are that wonderful.
Excuse me while I stare at them again.

Life in Random List Form

current loves

1. While welcoming children into my room the other morning, one of my girls said, “Miss Schultz, what happened to your feet?”

Umm…they’re boots honey!

2. I’m writing this from the comfort of my patio. Hello fall and your cooler temps.

3. Legit small town moment: One of my mom’s asked me this morning if I was walking my dog the other night. Apparently she saw me as she was coming home from work. Gotta remember to stop picking my nose in public!

*Figuratively speaking of course!*

4. Being able to walk my dog and not just run outside for her to go to the bathroom.

Again, Hello fall and your cooler temps!

5. 013

They may make me look like an old grandpa, but I love ‘em.

6. The Alumni Association of my university calling for a donation.

Umm, nope still poor. But thanks for asking!

7. Movies in the Park this week. I might even get to wear a hoodie!

Life in Clothes

Since I’ve started my new job, I’ve had someone comment on my clothing at least once a day.

I am by no means a fashion maven or icon. But after the third or fourth time that someone said, “You look so cute!”

I figured I must be doing something right.

I’ve tried to live by this adage by Coco Chanel.

I like to take time to make myself presentable in all situations. Rarely do I wear sweats outside of my home.

*Ok, Unless I’m sick or I’m going to a close friend’s house! Or I’m in Wisconsin and it’s –2 outside*

I looked through my closet and dresser and took inventory of my style.

A few things seem to repeat themselves.

1- WHITE!

Must find now!

via

White is a girls best friend. I probably have close to 15 white shirts. I have short sleeved, long sleeved, embellished tank tops, plan tanks, cardis, and sweaters.

White shirt bonus- They are always easy to find!

White is my go to color choice. You can dress it up or down by adding a few accessories.

Yes, white is a dangerous color but Tide has come out with a gentle bleach that I add to all my loads of whites.

Even preschool teachers can wear white and not be afraid!

2- Dresses

via

Dresses are the most versatile component of anyone’s wardrobe. Just put one on and you instantly have a pulled together look. Add a cardigan and a belt and you have a different look for another day.

3- Cardigans

via

This is one of my newest obsessions. Get them in a bunch of colors, weights, and lengths. You’ll be able to pack a few on a trip and use them with all your outfits.

4- Khaki Pants and Skirts

My absolute favorite outfit is a white shirt (original, I know!) and kaki pants. I can add bright jewelry or shoes and it doesn’t look blah. Bonus- Khaki literally goes with everything!

5- Clothes that are “seasonless”

via

Arizona may be void of seasons, but we do have some difference in weather!

It’s important to find outfits that you are able to wear year round. Add leggings and boots to a darker colored dress and you have a great fall look. Wear tights and heels and you are able to go through winter. Saves money and time!

6- Basics

via

By basics, I mean, white, black, brown, and grey.

By most of your shirts and pants in these colors and you’ll have many things to mix and match with.

Don’t be afraid of a blander color pallet, but don’t be afraid of color. You can always add a killer pair of red heels!

7- Accessories

via

Never underestimate the power of a well worn necklace or statement earrings. Not only is nice costume jewelry cheap, but it is easy to come by.

Jewelry also dresses up basics pieces.

Scarves also fall into this category.

8- When in doubt, dress like a French woman.

French woman have few clothes. However, their clothes probably cost more than a down payment on a KIA.

A French woman lives by the motto that if it worked on Monday it will work just as well on Thursday.

They know the power of basics and high quality pieces mixed together.

When I was student teaching I had a limited supply of dress pants. I kept track of every outfit I wore as to not wear the same pair of pants two days in a row. I challenged myself to never wear the same outfit twice. I totally did it!

It worked because I had a well stocked closet.

The newest person to be seen using this idea is my favorite princess:

Kate Middleton.

via

On the royal couple’s recent trip to Canada, Kate was famously seen wearing the same pair of jeans two or three times in the same week. Oh the horror, oh the shame!

Except, she was applauded for her savvy thriftiness. Not that she needs to be saving money! We’ve all been on a long trip with limited bag space.

via

Now, go through your closest and see what works best!
The first outfits you should keep around, and wear a ton, are the ones that you get complemented the most in.

Obviously, you look fabulous darling!

Life in Toms

I’m in love…

With a brand of shoes.

The company Toms could be my one of favorites. Not only do they have super comfy shoes that go with almost everything, they have a great mission.

One for One. You buy a pair of shoes and they donate a pair to another child in a third world country.

I currently own three pairs of beautiful Toms. I wear them almost everyday. The new summer line just came out and I’m going to have a hard time picking just one pair to call my own!

Check out these beauties

Or these

STRIPES!

Life in 40/40: Pretty Things Cleanout

Hello, my name is Rachel...and I have a problem. I love pretty things. More specifically, I love jewelry and shoes. I get all gaga when I'm around accessories. I practically drool over beautiful shoes. But, enough is enough. It is easier to make choices when you have less. After all, God only gave me two feet, two ears, and one neck! I neglected to take after pictures of my jewelry stashes. Just know that everything is nice, neat, and put away!

Here are my necklaces. I used to make a lot of my own jewelry, but trends change so fast in this area and most of it were a few years old.

I kept most of the stuff in the back box, and got rid of everything in the front box. These are all my cast-off earrings. They got boxed off and sent to their new home at Goodwill!
Here are all pretty girls! The Eiffel Tower thingy in the back is my earring holder.
Next up is my most dramatic clean out to date!

HELLO SHOES!!!
Or, GOODBYE SHOES!!!

Check out that gigantic pile of stinky shoes. There were a bunch that I had a hard time parting with. When it comes down to it, there are only about four pairs of shoes that I wear consistently.

Hello, pretty friends! You all get to stay!

Here is where my boots used to be. Crushed and smashed at the bottom of my closet.

Here is where they are now. Hanging up and out of the way!

One of my favorite parts of my apartment is my extra large closet and my shoe shelf. Be jealous! However, it had gotten messy. I had some organization, but it needed a good overhaul.

Top shelf : Super pretty and special occasion

(Love me some colored heels!)

Second Shelf: Sandals organized by color and Toms

Which now includes another pair!

Shelf Three: Neutral Heels organized by color

Shelf Four: Flats organized by color

Floor: Tennies
Did I mention how much I love my shoe shelf?!?

Well, there you have it. Up next is under the bathoom sink and hall closet.
