Life on the Weekend

Linking up for This Weekend I…

Ah Monday, we meet again!

Sometimes you need to stock up on everything at the same time.

Life Lately

Well, that was a long break!

I’ve always been obsessed with initials. After a friend or family member has a baby, mentally I’m putting together the kid’s monogram to see if it makes anything ridiculous. I have a cousin whose initials are IMP. No joke. My initials happen to be RTS. I always thought it was so cool that they’re almost in alphabetical order. (There is a point to this story, I promise!)

Life lately hasn’t been easy. The growing pains of a new school, the driving back and forth, adjusting to life in a new state, and all that goes with, well, life.

However, I don’t back down from a challenge. Because I Refuse To Sink. (See what I did there?)

Photo-11_7_13,-7.12.43-PM-1

I’ve been clinging to this truth while being anchored by the One who holds me.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19

I refuse to let my circumstances dictate my behavior.

I refuse to be limited by my circumstances.

I refuse to be ruled by my attitude.

I Refuse to Sink.

Life on the Weekend

Linking up for This Weekend I…

We have some of the greatest neighbors! I love when we get together over amazing food.

Photo-10_13_13,-3.53.01-PM-6

I’ve made this pie twice in the last two weeks. It’s so good. I’ll have the recipe up on the blog this week.

I’m totally addicted to bright things. Right?

I’m in love!

Catching up on writing and reading blogs. Somehow I never find time to read and comment on all your lovely blogs! If there was an award for worst blog reader in the world, I’d win.

Life on the Weekend

Linking up for This Weekend I…

Feels like forever since I’ve done one of these!

A pretty typical weekend around here. I’m loving relaxing afternoons with this one.

She loves a awful good selfie.

Pretty sure I found my greatest weakness.

Life in September: Day Sixteen

Write about a time when you screwed up.

Is it sad that most of my horrible stories come from sixth grade?

I could talk about the time I smarted off , got detention, and almost got my Valentine’s party taken away. Or maybe that time I hid a classmate’s math textbook and he got in trouble instead of me. I also remember a time when I quoted a line from a Pauly Shore movie, something along the lines of “everyday is an orgasm!” and the principal threatened me with calling my mother and I would need to repeat the line to her. Did I mention, at the time, she was the school board president ? Or that I was a student at a Christian school?

My stories sound pretty pathetic.

I’m sure that I’ve screwed up royally recently, but I’m not funny and I’m a tiny bit boring.

Life in September: Day Thirteen

React to the term “Comfort”

*Cozy sweaters

*A warm cup of coffee

*Rainy days at home

*Sheets fresh from the dryer

*Falling asleep after a long day

*First boot day of the season

*First sandal day of the season

*Thanksgiving Dinner

*Christmas with my family

*Being with people who understand you completely

During my college days I would go home once every six weeks or so. That simple act brought me so much joy and happiness. Nothing felt as comfortable to me as being home, sleeping in my bed, and eating my mom’s food. The free laundry wasn’t bad either!

Life in September: Day Six

Write about a time when your life has taken a turn.

The last year, give or take a few months, has been full of twists, turns, peaks, valleys, and any other cliché you can think of pertaining to changes.

Photo-6_6_13,-11.50.12-PM-1

If you’ve been around here for this roller coaster (sorry), you can click away. No hard feelings! For those new to the fun and games, first off Welcome, thanks for joining along! Here’s a quick overview.

After visiting my family in Texas during July of 2012, I seriously started to think about moving. I went back to Arizona and my life content and happy but I knew some parts of my journey were coming to a close. As the school year got progressively worse, I knew I needed to pick up the broken pieces and start over. During Thanksgiving and Christmas I spent more time with my family in Texas. The pieces were fitting together. I felt in my soul that God was calling me to Killeen.

When the spring semester started in my classroom, I just felt defeated. My kids were difficult to be around, our staff was getting more disgruntled, and my teaching was suffering. While sitting in a staff meeting, my prayers were finally answered in a huge way. I made my way to the directors office to give my verbal notice and I didn’t look back!

Once I finished a few difficult months, I started to pack and say goodbye to my life. My amazing friends through the best going away party I could have asked for. Ryan Lochte themed incase you cared! The best and coolest dad and brother came to pack the Uhaul in heart of June heat . We drove across the desert to start an unknown chapter of my life!

Hope you’ll stick around as I write this bad boy!

Life in September: Day Three

Share some advice or something you haven’t forgotten.

Have you ever felt like the world has gotten a little overshare happy? It definitely seems like everyone over the age of nine has an Instagram linked to a Twitter which happens to have over 100,000 followers. I mean, come on, how and why are these kids “famous”. Do they realize that in five or then years that can’t apply to college or a job under the title Instagram Famous?

Anyway, you get the idea, right?

With the amount of people sharing their lives growing everyday, it can make our small little lives feel insignificant. The pressure to fill our days with moments perfectly edited in a neat 4 by 4 square can overwhelm the soul. I’m feeling it. Are you? Even knowing that we only see the edited parts of people’s lives doesn’t make it any easier.

Don't compare yourself to other. You are YOU and that's great

When I came across this quote on Pinterest shocker I know I felt like someone finally understood the pressure we put ourselves under. And honestly, that’s what it is, we do this to ourselves. Willingly.

I’ve said this over and over. We all have a story. We all have something to share. You’ll spend wasted years trying to be someone other than yourself. Enjoy your life now, because we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow.

Don't compare

Life on the Weekend

Linking up for This Weekend I…

Now that I’m finding my “school groove” weekends are a precious thing!

Hung out with the neighbors. New goal in life, live next door to cool people. Our next door neighbors are pretty fun. Easy cookouts over beer and good conversation! Love.

Took my nieces to Starbucks. I’ve created monsters.

I bought them their own cups in hopes that they’ll stop drinking out of mine!

Photo-8_25_13,-1.36.09-PM-2

Made these babies mine!

Added some pretty to my car! I may just monogram everything I own. It’s a situation.

Life with a Summer Face

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is melting into a puddle err-very day. Since moving to Texas it’s been, Hello crazy hot humid weather! Goodbye full face of makeup. Add to that list: sitting around the house and chasing around my three year old niece.

Repeat with me,

Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Photo-7_23_13,-12.27.58-PM-1

On the days I look like death, these pals have become my lifesavers. The concealer has a nice creamy texture that doesn’t get cakey or orange during the day. I put a little under my eyes, around my nose, and on any trouble/red spots. Add a little bronzer all over the face if you actually leave the house. I promise you’ll look like you stepped off the beach.

Life in Texas (The Time I Got a Job!)

Do you read/write blogs in the summer? If I get one or two posts written a week, I feel pretty accomplished!

Life on a job hunt has been pretty crazy. I went on, what felt like, a million interviews and didn’t have great feelings about any of them. And, let’s be honest, $10 an hour does not cut it for this girl. Mama’s got some big dreams and that ain’t gonna happen on that kind of budget. I mean really!   Once I started to give up hope, I found my place! I feel so blessed and excited.

In the mean time I’ve been soaking up sweet sweet hang time with my family.

In fact, I found a pretty fantastic job before I found the job.

Beep Beep! Who wouldn’t wanna ride on this sweet bus??

Life in June: Number 18

Catch up here!
29things

Have I mentioned how much I loathe moving? I mean, really, doesn’t everyone? I started packing up my closet yesterday and I instantly went into super-ocd-panic stage. But I’m sure this move will be just like all the others. What I like to call –Dump everything in a box and call it a day- moving. I officially hate my life. Well, for the next two weeks at least! And oh, I'm having a Shop My Closet Sale on my Instagram racheltoo2. I'll have some clothes and some decor stuff, let me know if you're interested.

So, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Number 19: I’ve learned that everyone has a thing.
Everybody has something that makes them happy. Whether it’s a tv show, a sports team, band, or hobby we all have something. If  you’ve been around here long enough, you know my thing happens to be half naked men that swim super fast! You may love to photograph your dog. Or maybe you are a fantastic painter. Perhaps you enjoy writing fanfiction for your favorite movie (Hey, it’s a thing people!). The point is, we all have something that makes us happy. The sight of Ryan Lochte in a speedo may do nothing for you, but it makes me happy!

So why do we think it’s ok to make fun or push aside each other’s things? Just because I don’t watch, or care to watch, Dr. Who doesn’t make it ok for me to pass judgment on my friends who love the show.( I mean looooove the show.)

Find your people and revel in that niche. Because once you do, you’ll find out that you’re not alone.
And, don’t feel bad about talking to me (or other people) about your thing. Because heaven knows that I have no trouble sharing mine with you! Be proud! Wear the t-shirts, live tweet your show, embrace your thing and we will be better because of it. Heck, I might even want to join you.

Just don’t ask me to watch Downton Abbey, I can’t get behind that.

Life in June: Three Shows I Know

Click here to catch up on all the fun!

29things

I’m not going to lie, being a teacher in the summer is awesome! Plenty of time for the pool, hanging out, and watching all the show I’ve missed over the years.

Thank you Netflix.

Here are my three (well, four if you want to get specific.) favorite shows to stream.

Number 23: Dawson’s Creek

DVD Cover for Season 2 DVD of Dawson's Creek

Yeah, I know. DC is a show that you can have playing in the background while you’re busy, or you can just watch your favorite episodes. Mine include: Pacey and Joey getting locked in a K-Mart, The Beauty Pageant. The third season and most of the fourth. Because…Joey and Pacey. Oh, and the finale. It’s a beautiful thing.

Number 22: Alias/MI5

Yes, that should be a picture of Jennifer Garner aka Sydney Bristow. But letsbehonest. The only reason I started watching the show was Michael Vartan aka Vaughn. After the first episode I totally fell in love with the kick ass action, spying, and amazing stories. I try to be Sydney Bristow every year for Halloween but it never works out. When people ask me my favorite show, this is it. Obsession? I say, yes!

If you already love Alias,or other espionage shows, let me introduce it’s BBC counterpart.

MI5 (or spooks in the UK)

Ten seasons. All on Netflix. All good. There are so many things that a BBC show can do that a US network show can’t. There won’t be the farfetched story lines and love story like Alias, but you’ll get sucked in just the same. My only suggestion, have the captions on, because British actors talk super fast. I’m currently working my way through this series again. Let me know if you’ve watched it, or want to start. I love “watching” a show with other people!

And, it stars Matthew McFadden (Mr. Darcy) and Rupert Penry-Jones in later seasons.

Yes, this guy!

Number 21: Ugly Betty

This show is simultaneously hilarious and beautiful. The clothes, the sets, the actors (umm, Eric Mabius). The story lines are way out there, especially the first season. If you keep in mind the telenovela background, it makes more sense. Thank goodness they dropped most of that after the first season. All around this show is pretty eye candy with an awesome family dynamic.

What do you watch on Netflix? I’m always looking for a new addiction!

And don’t say Downton Abbey. I’ll cut you!

Life in June: Number 27

Welcome to my 300th post, you’re welcome.

If you want to catch up with my 29 Things!

29things

Number 27: There are only 52 Fridays in a year.

Raise your hand if you live for the weekend? I mean, who doesn’t, right? Mathematically, it doesn’t add up. If you struggle along every week day hoping and wishing for Friday and the weekend, you’ll have a pretty sad week. There’s nothing wrong with having amazing plans for the weekend, I love me some Friday nights and my Saturday afternoons at the pool. But don’t live only for those things.

Make your week amazing! *Schedule dinner plans with friends. *Find an outstanding Happy Hour. *Plan a date during the week.* Make an overnight breakfast dish so you don’t have to rush around in the morning.  Open up your nights for great things and you won’t be sad once Monday morning rolls around.

Also, it goes without saying, find a job you love and you won’t be riding the struggle bus every week!

Ok?

(You could also look at this the other way, there are only 52 Fridays in a year so make ‘em count, right?)

Life in June: Number 28

If you missed yesterday’s announcement, which I can only assume that you did because…Sunday, it was my birthday! I’ve decided to celebrate my 29 years all month long. Because who doesn’t deserve a month long birthday party?
29things
Yesterday, I shared why I think blogging is bonkers, but in a great way!

Number 28: I’ve learned that not everybody is going to love you. And that’s totally ok. This goes for the real world as well as blogging. Growing up, I felt like I never really let people get to me. Words and all that didn’t make much of an impact on me. But I was surrounded by a bubble. A huge freakin’ bubble the size of my town, population 2,500. This created such a false sense of security. Everybody knew me and ,I felt, liked me for me. And I, for the most part, liked everyone I came in contact with. People were just nice. Or maybe I was just Pollyanna and didn’t want to see the bad in others. It wasn’t until I was in college (seriously folks!) that I can remember not liking someone for the first time, and guess what? The feeling was totally mutual. I didn’t die, my life wasn’t over. I just had a person that I didn’t get along with, and it was normal.

Unfortunately, I work in a career that places a high standard for likeability. Deep down inside me I want/need to make people like me. I feel uncomfortable when I have one or two parents who I don’t make a great connection with. It almost feels forced after a few interactions. Such is the word of teaching, some years they love you and some years they don’t. No matter what you do, you will always always have a select group that just don’t understand!
But you know what they say about haters…

Cause really, who wouldn’t want to be friends with this!

Life in May: Day Thirty One

*Blogging everyday in May*

Share a vivid memory.

photo

Another picture that has zero to do with today’s post. It’s pretty awesome (hehe) and I’m pretty tired!

Put on a party hat, pop some bubbly, and celebrate! This month is o to the ver! Wow, I’m so glad I soldiered on through to the end. Now what do I do? Ha, I’ve got plans friends!

So…my vivid memory is actually the first thing from my childhood that I can recall. I’m around three years old, maybe a little older, and I’m sitting in our bathtub. To understand my memory, let me explain The Tub. We had this beautiful claw footed porcelain tub. Straight from the 1900’s. It was super cold in the winter so my mom would turn the water on as hot as possible while we waited for 20 minutes for the tub to warm up. The back of the tub was raised and created sort of a waterslide, not that I ever tried that or anything. Our tub was huge. It was the perfect place to beat the summer heat and warm up in the winter.

I’m sitting in The Tub, singing my heart out to American Pie. Yes, Bye Bye Miss American Pie. There is no way I could have possibly known all the words and I definitely didn’t know what whiskey and rye were. But I was performing! The world (or bathtub) was my stage and I was merely a player. It was were I belonged.

Whenever I hear American Pie, I smile to myself a little bit. And now, I hope, you will too!

Thanks for coming along this month. Be sure to stop by on Sunday when I announce next month’s theme!
