Life in the Pool (Or that time I met Ryan Lochte)

*This post was scheduled for last week but with everything that happened it felt a little insensitive.*

Hey guys! Remember me?! Let me reintroduce myself.

I’m Rachel, and I love swimmers. Like a lot. Yes, I know it’s sad for an almost 29 year old woman to be ogling over muscles upon muscles. Wait, no it’s not!

Proof positive that there is a God, and he loves me! But I digress.

So last weekend I was able to attend the Arena Mesa Grand Prix. Not only were my favorite swimmers there, but we were able to interact with them on the regular. On Thursday,I happened to sit by Dana Vollmer’s coaches, and Dana herself after her races. On Saturday, I sat with Breeja Larson’s family. She’s a hometown(Mesa, AZ) favorite girl who had the coolest personal story leading up to the Olympics.

But we all know who I was really there for!

Yum! Arm veins shouldn’t be that hot!

Just take a minute to soak that all in.

And the lovely hilarious Anthony Ervin. Such a nice guy!

On Saturday, the heavens opened, the stars aligned, and the impossible happened.

Oh, what’s that? Mr. Lochte himself, looking right at my camera? No big deal.

Now, I know what’s been going around this week before and after Ryan’s showed aired. What I know is this. These pictures were taken 30 minutes after his last race. He stopped to sign autographs and take pictures with his fans for almost 45 minutes AFTER swimming a 200 meter IM, I’d like to see you try that!

Yes, he may come across as dumb, a player, or even a douche. But I’ve never seen someone be so loyal to their fans. Even with his publicists trying to get him to stop so he could do some interviews.

Class act all the way!

Anyway, consider this my entry back into the blogging world! Feels great!!

Life on Thursday

It’s been months since I’ve had a Thursday Thoughts list. So, I’m bringing it back! Let me know if you’d like a link-up. I’ve always enjoyed collecting my random thoughts/ideas to only spew them forth on the internet for all to see. A blast really!

* I’ve never hidden my love for Olympic swimmers. At this point, love may be putting it loosely. Crazed might be a better word! If you enjoy USMOST (US Men’s Olympic Swim Team) half as much as I do, you HAVE to check out this video.

*If you liked that, you’ll love my girls Eve and Candace. Ladies be hilarious!

*My nails currently look like this. Gross.

Why I don’t cut the other hand you ask? I can’t answer that. It makes typing on my left hand ridiculously hard.

*I swear the weather people in Phoenix need to make up words for weather phenomena. I mean seriously, we have zero weather so when something happens they get super excited.  Two years ago we had the haboob. (I’m not kidding!)  Last week they were trying to pass off Graupel. It’s pronounced like grapple, which by the by is a nasty grape flavored apple. Apparently graupel is white stuff that falls from the sky. You can’t tell if it is snow, ice or hail. Ummm, in Wisconsin we called that shizz Sleet. Maybe we could call it slaupel, or graupeet. See weather people, I can make up words too!

*When I find an outfit that I love, I wear it or various incarnations all the time.

My current fave has been tops for months.

Life on the Weekend (or why I missed the best part of the Super Bowl)

Linking up for This Weekend I…

TWI

I had an exceptionally amazing weekend with my friends. Let’s jump right in!

*Friday night was low key. Folded some laundry (Holla!) and watched some movies.

*My “sisters” and I love throwing theme parties. On Saturday, I met up with Amy to plan our Valentine’s Bash. Do you know how hard it is to find ideas for a Girls V-Day party that isn’t all “ DEATH TO BOYS! SINGLES FOREVER!”? We’ve got some awesome ideas though.

Just a typical Saturday night surfing Pinterest and drinking coffee with your sister!

*While at Amy’s I stumbled upon old pictures of myself. Holy cow, I can’t believe how much I’ve changed in the last seven months. It’s also such a great motivator! I should put together a progress post.

*Super Bowl Sunday started out with a Hills marathon. I could watch that train wreck over and over. No shame, friends.

*My Bindi likes to hide in blankets!

*Great day drinking party with friends.

I left right after Shasa Fierce and her holographic doubles (triples? quadruples?) boogied off the stage. You all know where this is heading. I missed the lights going out, most of the good commercials, and probably an audience camera pan of one Michael Phelps. Ugh.

How was your Super Weekend?

Life on the Weekend

So, I have nothing to write today.

I could tell you about going sky diving this weekend. You’d probably get jealous and I wouldn’t want to be “that blogger”.

I could tell you how I sat on the couch and made a huge dent in my netflix’s cue. That would seem to simple and dare I say, a little boring?

I kinda want to tell you about baking the perfect brown sugar cinnamon buttermilk biscuits, but that whole jealousy thing.

I would really like to share about being at Michael Phelps’ retirement party. You probably can’t handle this much awesomeness.

I could even write about swimming with sharks, but that’s scary so I’ll save that for another time.

Maybe I should share about doing the laundry, the dishes, and cooking. But that’s way too glamorous for this blog.

Basically, I’m taking a week long blog break.

No preplanned posts. No guest posts. Because, we all know how we feel about those.

Try not to miss me!

*Let’s play, guess what Rachel really did this weekend!*

Life with a Link

Alright, I promised I wouldn’t have any more Olympic posts, please humor me with this hilariousness.

Pinned Image

This picture is adorable, no?

Check this out.

Umm, there are people writing Phelps/Schmitt fanfiction. This is a real thing, folks.

I was dying reading the stories.

Dying because they were so ridiculous!

They’ve even given them one of those silly combined name things.

Not one, but two!

I prefer, Phitty.

As in 50 Cent.

Oh dear!

Life Together

*Alright friends, I’m sure you are tired of hearing about the Olympics. Bear with me for one more Olympic themed post! Please and thank you!*

The other day my director said to me, “Your room looks so much better than last year, I love it!”

I wanted to punch her.

Now, I’m normally not prone to fits of rage, and I definitely would never hit someone. But I was so close.

You see, last year was, to put it mildly, crap.

Lets take moment for a quick recap:

*January: Found out my school was closing at the end of the year. The first, and only, school I had ever worked at. *February: My grandma was diagnosed with terminal cancer. *March: Started job searching. *April: My great aunt, who was like another grandma, passed away from the same cancer as my grandma. *May: Grandma passed away five days before the end of my school year. Flew home to Wisconsin, stayed until June. *June: Packed up my classroom and house. Moved some of my stuff into my new classroom at new school. *July: Moved into a new apartment in a new part of town. *August: Started my sixth year of teaching, new school,  new grade level, new struggles.

Now, I’m not writing this to say, Oh look at me I’ve been through so much I deserve to be held and coddled. I’m using this to how much we need the Body of Christ. I’m so grateful that I have such a strong support system. It hasn’t been an easy road at all. There have been plenty of tears, sleepless nights, and panicked calls/texts to friends. I’ve never needed my supporting cast more than I have in the last year.

*Umm ok, so let’s see how I can tie this all in to the Olympics!*

I was struck this week during the prelim relay races by the way the US team decided to stack their relay teams. I was so confused as to why they would swim the prelim with one team and use a completely different team for the finals. I was shocked! What? You can send one team in, expect them to get a good position, and say Thanks so much for your time, let’s have the A team take it from here.

What if they won a medal? How would the prelim team feel? (I found out that both teams get a medal if the final team wins.) I was reading the swimmers twitters (I’m obsessed by the way!) and they were congratulating the prelim team for getting them to the finals. Talk about teamwork. I admit, I was a little more impressed when I thought the prelim team didn’t medal!

The swimmers all knew what was best for the team. If their coach said, “You’re swimming the prelim, go out do your best, your team is counting on you.” They did it. Why?

Because they believed in the team. They were willing to literally “Take one for the team”.

My favorite swimmer this Olympic time has been Allison Schmitt. (known to most, and me, as Schmitty)

Pinned Image

Schmitty is most known as being Phelps training partner. According to MP, he credits Allison with a lot of his maturity during these games. She made him laugh and kept him loose during all their training sessions before the games. He, in turn, helped her to become more focused and calm. She credits him with most of her success this time around. Sister friend broke TWO world records! (She only swam in one relay in 2008.) I loved reading their twitter exchanges and to see the brother/sister love that they have for each other.

Pinned Image

Most of the team has said that Schmitty is always laughing, dancing, and joking around. She brings joy to all of those around her.

Pinned Image

This, perhaps, is the best example of Michael and Allison’s relationship.
Here they are at their last practice together, and what are they doing? Laughing, holding hands, and taking one last leap into the pool. Together. Each knew what a big moment this was and didn’t want to do it alone.

She’s my new hero!

So, do you have a Schmitty in your life? Perhaps you’re a Schmitty to someone else.

We were not created to go through this life alone. Praise God that we don’t have to!

Life on Thursday

This past week can be put in three very different very distinct categories.

Olympics,  Meetings, Backstreet Boys

If you follow me on Twitter, I’m sorry. Going to let my tweets do the talking this time around.  Total cop out, I know. They’re pretty fantastic if you ask me!

Life With a Video

Alright, so we all know that I’m a ridiculous Olympic fan.
Pinned Image
Beautiful!

Have you seen the Swim Team’s Call Me Maybe video?
(Sorry Katie, I can’t get enough of these!)

As wonderful that video is, this one might be a little better!

Now, I know I’ve been giving Phelpsie a hard time this past week. But, after that relay last night he’s starting to grow on me again. He was so gracious to his teammates after they won. Everyone keeps saying that he has matured and seems more relaxed this time around. I believe it! He doesn’t come off so jerky in his interviews any more.

Well, except for this:

Life During the Olympics

It’s Olympic Day! I cannot wait for the Opening Ceremonies tonight.

There’s something about people achieving the pinnacle of success that brings goofy tears to my eyes.

No joke, I’ll be bawling like a baby. Heck, I’ve been tearing up during the Today Show all week. There’s only so many athlete life stories that I can handle before I cry the ugly cry.

In other Olympic news, this happened.

Seriously Michael Phelps? You couldn’t even brush your hair before you let them take your ID picture. Really?

You’re making my job (making fun of you) soooo much easier.

And really, you of all people should know the importance of pictures, the media, and self image.

Really, ID photographers? You couldn’t hand the dude a brush or a comb or a bone? This man is a national treasure. NATIONAL TREASURE. He endorses SUBWAY for goodness sakes, SUBWAY ANOTHER NATIONAL TREASURE. And you didn’t find it necessary to tell the guy he had some serious bed head?

Mama Phelps, I’m sure you were somewhere ironing your blazers and perfecting your patented Taylor Swift-esque- I -can’t believe–he-just-won-face for the inevitable moment you will grace our televisions.  But really? You would really let your precious Mickey step out like this?

Aw, Phelpsie, you never had a chance did ya?

So, here’s to you Michael Phelps, may you continue to swim and win gold medals.

And  really, stop growing the ‘stache.

The world (well, mostly me) will thank you.

Life on Thursday

*Do you watch America’s Got Talent?
I get upset when I watch these little kids come on the show expecting to make it far. I feel like the producers put them on for the heartstring factor knowing full well that they will never give them a Vegas act. And seriously some of them (cough, Little Star, cough) aren’t that great.
*Let’s collectively take a moment for the USA Men’s Swim Team.
Hi Ryan Lochte! (I feel like this picture should be turned into a Hey Girl)
Brendan Hansen, ohdeargoodnessicannotbreathe.
Seriously, here’s another!
Can we all just agree that Michael Phelps (and the porn-stache)can just go away.
Mmkay?

Ew, gross!
*I wrote this post and no one responded! Come on friends, I need some posts for vacation week!
*Speaking of vacation week, I’m leaving for Texas and couldn’t be more excited! If it’s a little slow around here, I’m soaking up time with my family. Deal with it folks!
*My partner in crime moves tomorrow. Let’s not talk about it. Like, I can’t even.
