Life in October: Saving Money for the Big Stuff

Simple Ways to Not Max Out Your Credit Card this Holiday Season

-Start Buying a Visa Gift Card Once a Week.-

Pick a dollar amount that fits your budget. Use those cards to buy your gifts or give them as gifts!

-Hit Up a Few Etsy Shops-

If you don’t have a favorite (or two!) Etsy shops, where have you been? There’s nothing like helping out a small business owner. PS-If you ask really nicely, they may offer you and your readers a coupon code or a giveaway. Use you blog for good.

-Buy a Few Small Things Each Time You Shop-

My grandma always picked up little knickknacks here and there during the year. Sometimes she gifted us right away, other times she saved it for Christmas. Either way it was so special knowing she thought about you while being out and about.

 -Homemade-

Check out your Crafts to Make board (don’t pretend you don’t have one) and make something! You’ll thank me later!

-Layaway-

Wal-Mart, Sears and K-Mart are all offering layaway programs this season. I even saw an ad from Wal-Mart that offered no sign up costs! Sweet deal.

Happy October! One of my favorite months is finally here. What is it about fall that gets bloggers all in a tizzy?!

Life in Thanksgiving

If you have known me for any length of time, you know what an absolute nut I am for Thanksgiving.

I can’t wait to dive into some pumpkin pie!

For one day every year everyone is doing the exact same thing.

No matter your religion or your belief system, Thanksgiving in universal.

we gather together with friends and family, sit down and eat delicious food, watch football, go for a  walk, take a nap, play games, and of course we tell each other what we are thankful for. 

Too bad Thanksgiving gets pushed to the side by it’s older brothers Black Friday and Christmas! Refer to my posts about Saving the Pilgrims.

 My thankful list

*My job that I continue to love.

*My home that I am able to entertain in.

*My dog

*My family who I can’t wait to see in a few short weeks!

*My small group sister friends who make me laugh, cry, and smile.

* My coworkers who make me want to be a better teacher.

*My teacher aide who I can have heart to hearts with everyday.

*My mini-break with my college friends to Chicago in two weeks!

It’s the beginning cords of The March to Christmas…

Ugh!

First off, I love Christmas. I love decorating, listening to music, getting together with family and friends, and eating all those once a year goodies.

But seriously, let’s wait until after Thanksgiving.

SAVE THE PILGRIMS!

Let them have their holiday.

I am Christmas’ biggest fan starting Black Friday. Until November 25th this place is a Christmas free zone!

I went to Starbucks today, and was handed this:

I will admit, it was filled with a peppermint mocha. But, I couldn’t resist and I’m a little burnt out of pumpkin spiced lattes.

However, October is over and it officially kicked my biscuit.

Bring it on November!

The next few weeks are some of my favorite in the school year.

We started singing our Turkey songs today.

I can’t wait to bust out the “How to Cook Thanksgiving Dinner” question sheets.

Plans for my annual Christmas Tree Decorating Party are coming along nicely.

My friends and I got together last week and had a craft night inspired by my latest DIY.

I can’t wait to show all the hard work my girls put into their projects.

Until then, stay away from the 24 hour Christmas music channels, put away the egg nog, step away from the tree lights and just enjoy the next four weeks! Christmas will come soon enough  

 

Life in the Craft Room

Want a quick, easy, cheap, every adjective for thrifty, craft with mini pumpkins?

This project was, for reals, the quickest DIY I’ve ever attempted.

It took me longer to clean up the hot glue strings!

 

Make sure your mini pumpkins are fresh and clean.

I have one that might only last a week while the others might make it until Halloween.

I used baby rick rack but you could use larger rick rack on a larger pumpkin and get the same effect.

Measure your rick rack. Cut enough pieces for each rib.

I only followed the large ribs. There were 9 or 10 on each pumpkin.

Glue, place rick rack, repeat!

So simple, no joke.

Ahh, I’m in love!

I’m off to eat some homemade applesauce while enjoying this beautiful fall day in Phoenix!

Yes, you read that right! This time of year always gets me excited for my favorite season.

I don’t even know if obsessed is a strong enough word.
