Life in Clothes

The most horrible thing has happened.

Really, it’s a tragedy. I’m officially in mourning.

Let me introduce you to…I can barely even write it.

My uniform.

Work Uniform

Seriously, I can’t even tell you how much this breaks my fashion loving heart.

So, accessories where you at? I’m calling in all my reinforcements.

What would you wear to jazz this up?

Life in June: Tank Top Makeover

Catch up here!

 29things

Number 7: Change up your wardrobe with some scissors!

Tanktop Makeover

I love creating clothes that are all my own. If I find a shirt that too small or too big, I don’t let it stop me. Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-10

If you don’t think this the best tank top, well then, you can’t sit with us!

Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-9

While I was wandering around Target, I grabbed an extra small tank top to use as my fabric inserts.

Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-8

Fold shirt on seams. Cut both sides together until you reach the point you’d like to stop your insert.

Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-7

Cut one side of the extra shirt.

Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-6

Lay shirts on top of each other. You’ll want to match the bottom edges together. Use your original tank top as your pattern.

Sorry this picture is so dark!

Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-5

Cut the inserts in a triangle shape.

Photo-6_6_13,-5.39.47-PM-4

Now at this point you could sew the inserts into the tank top or you could use seam tape if you’re lazy, like me!

And there you have it!

Life in May: Day Twenty Five

*Blogging everyday in May*

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Oh my, this post is going to come across super coincided. I hesitate to share it because you probably won’t even believe that this happens a lot!

Over the last few years I’ve made a complete style overhaul. When I first started teaching my wardrobe consisted of what I call young professional old lady. It was just so gosh darn hot my first years in Arizona, I had a hard time dressing for the heat! I won’t even share any pictures from that time, because it’s hard on the eyes! After immersing myself in blogs and pinterest, I consider my current style boho vintage glam. (I love my sparkles!)

Such a long lead up to a small compliment.

As I’ve changed my style, people started noticing. My coworkers were the first to pick up on the change. I hear you look so cute, where did you get that probably three times a week. Complete strangers in public have approached me while shopping to say the same thing! Once, a male Forever 21 employee said he liked my style. If that’s not a stamp of approval, I’ll eat my summer fedora.

No matter how many times I hear this, I have the hardest time taking the compliment. See, I still feel like that awkward girl who couldn’t dress to save her life. I had a friend in college who would get so angry when we would throw away her compliment. She would explain that by complimenting her friends she was affirming the way God saw us. Perfect and complete.

So now, I just say thank you very much! And go on my way.

New truer words have ever been spoken, or put on a t-shirt!

Life in May: Day Nineteen

*Blogging everyday in May*

Share five of your favorite blogs and why you like them.

I love many many blogs. Like most bloggers, I read a bunch of blogs before I sat down behind my keyboard crankin’ this baby out on the regular!

Because I love so many types of blogs, today I want to share some that I feel need a little recognition.

First up is Sarah from From the Desk.

Sarah is a social work student/military wife who’s husband is currently deployed. She is currently in DC with other social work students working on hunger initiatives. Bonus, she’ll be my “neighbor” when I move next month!

Next up is Katie from Take Two.

Gosh, I just love this girl! She shares her middle of the night shopping trips with the world. We’re talking tofu, eggplant, and other randoms. Girlfriend is straight up hilarious. She also leaves some of the best comments on my blog.

The next three don’t really need an introduction:

Megan from Greetings from Texas. If you haven’t read this blog, you’re missing out!

Raven

And of course the only reason I’m writing this post in the first place: Jenni from Story of My Life.

Life with Style

When I first started teaching, I needed to dress professionally every day. We’re talking dress pants, nice shirts, and heels. At my first school we were not allowed to wear jeans, ever. That’s depressing!

As I was reorganizing my closest AGAIN last month, I realized just how much my style has changed. I hardly ever wear heels anymore. Do you know how many cute pairs of heels I own just collecting dust? They are crying out to me!

Most days you can find me wearing a dress or a skirt while rocking some cute boots or flats. Leggings or jeans are the only pants that touch my legs. Last year I even challenged myself to wear nothing but dresses and skirts!   The problem is, I still shop like I wear dress pants or khakis. I have drawers full of “professional” tops and almost nothing to mix with them.

With all that being said, it has been such a fun ride evolving my style. I love to shop. No, I live to shop. Which means I’m constantly readjusting my wardrobe.

Some of my favorite looks from my Things to Wear board.

Life in November

I have a lot of Stuff. Yes, it is necessary to capitalize Stuff. I fear that the Stuff may be taking over. I used to justify my habits, but no more.

I've done spending freezes in the past and they worked wonderfully. It’s time to do it again.

I’m committing myself to a No-Spend November. (and probably December, as well.)

In order to feel truly grateful and have gratitude for what I already have, it’s time to stop spending and just live. Live in the moment like I proclaim to do!

If you want to join me, and Meghan, let me know in the comments!

And don’t forget to link up on Friday with me for Gratitude Project 2012!

Life with Fall Favorites

Hey guys! I’m back with another vlog today. Sharing some of my favorite things for fall.

PS… I don’t have some weird growth on my neck, stupid shadows! If you keep track of how many times I say cute or fun, I’ll send you a cookie or something.  Enjoy!

Life on Thursday

It’s Thursday! Time to link up with Sar for one long Thursday Thought!

So, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve fallen prey to the trends of fashion blogging.

I own four bubbles necklaces, I have more red/bright pink lipstick than I can count, and there are multiple chambray shirts in my closest. After reading this post and this follow up, I was intrigued.
What do guys really think about these seemingly adorable trends?

Enter my closest friend, who just happens to be (gasp) a guy, a brother to three sisters, and a reader of this little blog.

*please know that this is typical of a majority of our text conversations.*

He went on to tell me that maxi dresses look like pajamas (duh, they’re “work appropriate pajamas!)

photo

First off, I have awesome friends!

Secondly, apparently guys have strong opinions on girls fashion sense.

Thirdly, googling buns makes boys hungry!

I, for one, will not be giving away my maxis anytime soon. I know I can rock a topknot with the best of them, even if it’s boarding on 60 year old librarian. However, I’m not in a relationship. I get to dress for me! Would you dress a certain way around your guy? If you knew he didn’t like a certain article of your wardrobe, would you take it out of rotation?

I’m really interested in this idea. Please, please let me know your thoughts!

Life With a Challenge

I posed this question the other day on Twitter

Life in California

Remember when I said I didn’t have any pictures from the wedding in California?
Well, I kinda lied. I found a few!
hotel
Apparently, I won the Priceline jackpot!
Umm, only $72 a night.
Take that you and your overpriced hotel room!
clothes
There must be some unwritten rule I have that states: “You must take a picture of yourself when there is a full length mirror present.”
It's a situation, folks.
