Life in September: Day Six

Write about a time when your life has taken a turn.

The last year, give or take a few months, has been full of twists, turns, peaks, valleys, and any other cliché you can think of pertaining to changes.

If you’ve been around here for this roller coaster (sorry), you can click away. No hard feelings! For those new to the fun and games, first off Welcome, thanks for joining along! Here’s a quick overview.

After visiting my family in Texas during July of 2012, I seriously started to think about moving. I went back to Arizona and my life content and happy but I knew some parts of my journey were coming to a close. As the school year got progressively worse, I knew I needed to pick up the broken pieces and start over. During Thanksgiving and Christmas I spent more time with my family in Texas. The pieces were fitting together. I felt in my soul that God was calling me to Killeen.

When the spring semester started in my classroom, I just felt defeated. My kids were difficult to be around, our staff was getting more disgruntled, and my teaching was suffering. While sitting in a staff meeting, my prayers were finally answered in a huge way. I made my way to the directors office to give my verbal notice and I didn’t look back!

Once I finished a few difficult months, I started to pack and say goodbye to my life. My amazing friends through the best going away party I could have asked for. Ryan Lochte themed incase you cared! The best and coolest dad and brother came to pack the Uhaul in heart of June heat . We drove across the desert to start an unknown chapter of my life!

Hope you’ll stick around as I write this bad boy!

Life in June: Number 11-9

Catch up here!

Number 11: My friends are absolutely the best.

They are throwing me, and I can’t stress this enough, a Ryan Lochte Themed Going Away Party.

A RYAN LOCHTE going away party.

This can only go one way… and that would be amazing!

Number 10: How am I going to move all of this?

This falls under the category of Things I Wish I Knew.

I mean really, folks, how am I going to move all of this jewelry?? If you have any ideas, please please help a sister out!

Number 9: I belong in Texas.

Case in point.

Not only do I group message my eight and eleven year old nieces, (Yes, 8 and 11), but they correct each other, while being in the same room with each other.

These kids are the greatest!

Life in June: I’ve had it with packing

Catch up here!

29things

In the last seven years I’ve moved four times. I’ve had three apartments and three classrooms. So if I know anything, moving is that thing. I tend to think I’ve got this packing/moving/unpacking business down.

Number 14: How to move and not punch yourself in the face. (Well, maybe a little punching.)

Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-1Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-2Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-3

You know, to color code your boxes and stuff. Yes, I color code my moving boxes. No, I don’t have issues with OCD.

Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-4

I live in Arizona, WHO NEEDS THAT MANY SCARVES??? No one, I tell ya, no one.

Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-5Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-6Photo-6_12_13,-3.25.15-PM-7

Funny story: When I moved the last time (two years ago) I couldn’t find some stuff that I knew I had packed. I even blamed, in my head, my friend who helped me move and the creepy movers who broke a mirror and didn’t tell me. Yesterday I was going through boxes to organize all the crap, and I found my stuff underneath some old t-shirts. That, my friends, is how not to pack.

Because I’m moving into my brother’s house for a little while, most of my stuff is going into storage. I have a plan, folks. However, I know my brother and dad will laugh at the plan and just put stuff haphazardly into the truck. I want to pretend, even for a few minutes, that I’m in control of this move.

Stop laughing.

Life in June: Number 18

Catch up here!
29things

Have I mentioned how much I loathe moving? I mean, really, doesn’t everyone? I started packing up my closet yesterday and I instantly went into super-ocd-panic stage. But I’m sure this move will be just like all the others. What I like to call –Dump everything in a box and call it a day- moving. I officially hate my life. Well, for the next two weeks at least! And oh, I'm having a Shop My Closet Sale on my Instagram racheltoo2. I'll have some clothes and some decor stuff, let me know if you're interested.

So, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Number 19: I’ve learned that everyone has a thing.
Everybody has something that makes them happy. Whether it’s a tv show, a sports team, band, or hobby we all have something. If  you’ve been around here long enough, you know my thing happens to be half naked men that swim super fast! You may love to photograph your dog. Or maybe you are a fantastic painter. Perhaps you enjoy writing fanfiction for your favorite movie (Hey, it’s a thing people!). The point is, we all have something that makes us happy. The sight of Ryan Lochte in a speedo may do nothing for you, but it makes me happy!

So why do we think it’s ok to make fun or push aside each other’s things? Just because I don’t watch, or care to watch, Dr. Who doesn’t make it ok for me to pass judgment on my friends who love the show.( I mean looooove the show.)

Find your people and revel in that niche. Because once you do, you’ll find out that you’re not alone.
And, don’t feel bad about talking to me (or other people) about your thing. Because heaven knows that I have no trouble sharing mine with you! Be proud! Wear the t-shirts, live tweet your show, embrace your thing and we will be better because of it. Heck, I might even want to join you.

Just don’t ask me to watch Downton Abbey, I can’t get behind that.

Life in May: Day Twelve

*Blogging Everyday in May.*

What do you miss?

608254774*6082546002

To you those numbers mean absolutely nothing. Numbers I could rattle off in my sleep. Numbers that mean something only to a select few. To me, they are my home.

Phone numbers, that once dialed connected you something larger than yourself. Phone numbers that connected you to  family.

You see, these numbers no longer connect you to that family. Oh, the house is there but the lines are disconnected. You won’t be greeted with the typical , “Schultz’s Nut House, which nut would you like?” A joke that only my dad could pull off. If you called those numbers today, all you’d hear would be a dial tone. I know, because I tried.

After 100 years of Schultz’s living on the farm, this weekend the last family moved out. No one will call The Farm home. The door will be closed and locked for the last time. A house once filled with love, laughter, cookies and bread will be silent.

You ask me what I miss, this is it.

Life in the Classroom

Saying that I have been busy is a bit of an understatement!

As a teacher, the first two weeks of August are always a little hectic. But add teaching a new grade level at a new school and you’ve got one overwhelmed Rachel!

Overwhelmed and overjoyed!

This year is going to be such a fantastic experience.

I’m surrounded by excellent professionals who have become a great support system already.

Bring on the kids! School starts on Thursday!

Life in the Laundry Room

The gas man was here early this morning and I officially have gas.

Awful joke, sorry!

Let me tell you how my life has been improved in the past week.

I currently have a dishwasher full of partially clean dishes because it is running!

I’ve already finished two loads of laundry.

I was able to cook a delicious lunch and I’m now anticipating the homemade pizza on the menu for dinner.

I was excited when the direct tv guy came this afternoon, as well.

But he looked at me and said, “Crazy lady, your apartment faces west. You can’t have satellite.”

*He didn’t call me crazy lady but it makes for a better story*

WHAT?!?!

I was all ready to finally fork over my hard earned money for tv and you’re telling me my apartment is facing the wrong direction?

Now back to square one! Hopefully Cox cable will come through for me.

I’m never moving again, I tell ya!

PS…if you haven’t already, please take a look at my cousin’s blog

We’d appreciate your support and we covet your prayers.

Life in the Mountains

I’m all moved in, unpacked (with the exception of two pesky little boxes), and ready to decorate!

I do have a few little gripes to get out of the way first.

My gas still isn’t on. Which means I can’t cook, dry my clothes, or take a hot shower until tomorrow.

Well, taking a cold shower doesn’t bother me too much when it is 100+ outside!

Because I moved further north, the stupid (yet, still beautiful) mountains block my ability to obtain any sort of antennae signal to watch TV.

I’m going to have to break down and get cable.

I haven’t had cable in 5 years people!

Other than those things, my new place is fantastic.

I have a garage.

A huge pantry.

A huge patio just waiting for guests.

A huge living room waiting for guests.

A huge kitchen waiting for guests.

Ok, you get the picture. My place is HUGE!

This is a house begging for a party.

Can’t wait to show off some pictures once I get it show piece ready.

(yeah right, like that will ever happen!)

Life in the Craft Room

I've been super crafty this week and I can't wait to share it all with you! I need to finish up a few things, take some pictures, and post the hard work.

Until then, I'm in the process of finding movers. Talk about a headache! Debating if I should do the packing myself and have movers take it away, or would it be better to have someone else do the packing.

Any moving stories you want to share? Good, bad or ugly!

Have a fabulous weekend!
