Life in 2012

So here's my quipy "2012 in Review" post.
If you really want to catch up, check out my archives, people!

I'm currently soaking up the last few days with le family.
Where my two year old niece cuts me with broken coffee mugs. But that's a story for another day.

So long 2012! Bring it 2013!

PS, my biggest pet peeve is people saying Happy New Years instead of Happy New Year. So annoying.

(My) Life is Needing Some Direction

I don’t know what it is, but this little blog that could is running out of steam.
After unintentionally taking a few weeks off, I came back ready to hit the ground running. But I sat down behind my computer and nothing came to me. No cute DIY, no funny stories, no outfit posts,(Although I bought some combat boots so I’m entertaining some outfit ideas!)

I may be preaching to the choir here, because 99.9% of you have your own place on the internet, but after sharing your life and home for 2 plus years there are some things that you want to keep to yourself. It gets easy to share your accomplishments while leaving out all the icky stuff that comes along with life. Don’t worry! I’m not having a crisis or a major life meltdown. Honestly, I have nothing to share right now.

I could lie and make it seem like my life is cooler than it is. But believe me, currently, I’m sitting on my couch on a Saturday night watching Elf for the 100th time. Life of a rock star, right here! Maybe my life is in a mini rut. I’m sure I could pull together some half hearted posts or vlogs to pull myself out of this funk. I don’t want to do that.

So where does that leave Life in the Moment? Umm, I don’t know. So, let’s call it a pause. If I feel like writing something, I will. If I don’t, I won’t. I’ll probably lose followers, and really that would break my heart. When my life gets way more interesting, I’ll let you know!
What do you do to get out of a blogging (or life) rut?

Life with a Swap (Christmas music to be exact!)

Jingle Bell Rock Button Final

Thanks to Meghan, Megan, and Sara for this awesome idea!

Christmas music swap? No brainer, of course I would join! Even though I have a strict, No Christmas Music Before Thanksgiving Policy, I’m absolutely addicted after the turkey is put away!

I was so excited to be partnered with Tammy from Tammy Roses. She happens to be from New Zealand, which I think is pretty cool! Her “mixed taped” arrived in some cute wrapping, but I was too excited to take a picture of it!

Image

The New Zealand song was a sweet addition to an already pretty great play list. If you know the song “Fairytale of New York” by the Pogues, you’re pretty cool in my book!

So thanks Tammy, I’m so sorry that my package hasn’t arrived yet. #smalltownproblems

Life in November

I have a lot of Stuff. Yes, it is necessary to capitalize Stuff. I fear that the Stuff may be taking over. I used to justify my habits, but no more.

I've done spending freezes in the past and they worked wonderfully. It’s time to do it again.

I’m committing myself to a No-Spend November. (and probably December, as well.)

In order to feel truly grateful and have gratitude for what I already have, it’s time to stop spending and just live. Live in the moment like I proclaim to do!

If you want to join me, and Meghan, let me know in the comments!

And don’t forget to link up on Friday with me for Gratitude Project 2012!

Life on the Weekend

Linking up for This Weekend I…

This weekend was pretty boring. I went home at noon on Thursday because I was ridiculously sick. I stayed in bed all day Friday and finally felt like myself on Saturday!

However I did make a quick stop at the Farmer’s Market.

Obviously one needs to wear flannel (and moccs!)to navigate produce.

Drank some goodness from RED CUPS!

(Why do we get irrationally excited about this, every year?!)

Stayed tuned for tomorrow. There’s another video coming your way! Or don’t come back, but you’ll be sorry!

Life with Favorite Vego Things

Welcome back! If you weren’t here yesterday, I suggest you watch my first video. I go more in depth about my vegetarian journey.

Today I’m sharing my vego faves!

My Ultimate Vegetarian Website/Recipe List

Right now my go to is www.tastykitchen.com You are able to search by type of food, diet, or specific recipe. A wonderful resource for gluten free as well.

Real Simple and Martha also have great sections dedicated to vegetarian cooking. Martha even has a whole magazine (Whole Living) that focuses on the vegetarian lifestyle and the green movement.

Skinny Ms. is another site full of quick easy recipes.

Fit Foodie Finds is literally a goldmine of healthy food recipes, like these ten quinoa treats. I’m 110% in love with quinoa and will share some of my favorite ways to use it soon!

The Best (not even joking) Chili from Sweet Twist of Blogging

Yummy Peppers from Can You Stay for Dinner

This amazing sandwich can be made with Fakeon (fake bacon)

Bacon Guacamole Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Closet Cooking

This is a great stopping point because I could go on and on linking wonderful things for you all day.

If you check out my Things to Eat board on Pinterest, you’ll find plenty of other resources as well.

Once again, if you liked this or would like to see more things like this on my blog, please let me know!

Life on the Weekend

I had another fantastic weekend! How was yours?

This weekend I…

…spent Saturday in Downtown Phoenix with my friend Stacey.

We went to the Harvest Festival, a huge traveling arts and crafts fair.

We saw some people standing on the street corner with big cameras. There were motorcycle cops blocking traffic and random people on walkie talkies. Apparently, they were filming a Nissan commercial on the streets of downtown.

Here’s a quick video I caught.

Had a few Purple Hazes at my favorite spot, Copper Blues

While we were waiting at the Light Rail stop, a guy comes up to me and screams “Hey, give me everything you have!”

FREAK OUT!

Before I could react (or pee my pants) he says, “I’m just playing just playing, does this train head south?”

Note to men everywhere, DON’T DO SHIZ LIKE THAT!

I’m currently working on this pile.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow. I have something new planned for you all!

Hope you have a great week.

Life on Thursday

Pretty busy, but fun week. Let’s take a trip through my Instagram (racheltoo2) and relive the highlights.
Came into school on Monday with this sitting on my desk. Probably the most awesome way to start my week.
Mmmm. Ryan Lochte. He’s now been censored, four year olds can’t handle aaaalllll of that.
Don’t have a mustache ring? May I suggest you purchase one immediately. You’ll be my friend for life.
In case you were confused on the locality your domestic beer. Isn’t this common knowledge? Or is this something only people from Wisconsin are taught. In the womb. St. Louis beer= Swill. Milwaukee beer is king.
Just finished two days of parent teacher conferences, two of my students have strep, and I’m buying tea in bulk.
#thattimeofyear
Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow for

This will be the first of my weekly Friday link up. Feel free to join us between now and the end of the year!

Life with Gratitude

As cliché as it is to say this, I love this time of year. There’s a chill in the air, the days are shorter, and comfort foods can be found in crock-pots around the neighborhood. Fall is here! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, but Tgives holds a special place in my heart.

With all that is going on in our world and lives, I’d like for us to take some time and reflect on all the things we can be grateful for.

I’m issuing a challenge. From now until Thanksgiving, let’s tweet, instagram, and blog all the things we are thankful for. Come back here on Fridays where we can link up anything and everything that we are grateful for. All I ask is that you follow me here or on twitter and instagram (racheltoo2) so I can follow along with you! Use #gratitudeproject12 or #gp12! Let me know if you plan to participate by linking up below.

Life with Civility

Let’s talk a little bit about the power of words.

Last week I unceremoniously decided to deactivate my facebook until after the election.

I, along with many others, am extremely tired of having other people’s political views slapped in my face around every corner. I know who I’m voting for, thank you, and I really don’t need your soundbite or a well crafted diatribe via status update to sway me one way or the other. I know I’m not the only person who feels like this, am I right?

And, for shame, I refused to watch the debate! (Which now, I understand, was a mistake!)

I’ve said this many times before. Teaching preschool is a microcosm of society today.  You’ve got your nerds, jocks, mean girls, clowns, and a few leaders to balance it all out. When we were kids, we were all able to finish the quote “If you don’t have anything nice to say…”

I tried that the other day, and my class stared at me like I sprouted two heads. What does this say about our culture? Apparently we are not teaching our children the greatest axiom of our time. Honestly, where does this leave us? Does civil discourse even exist anymore? Are we able to intelligently debate one another without going for the throat?

I don’t share my political views with the unwilling. (I’m looking at you oversharers on FB!) But I’d be glad to sit down with a glass of red (or beer) and share with you how I’ve come to my beliefs. Guess what? You can even tell me that you don’t agree with me. In fact, I welcome it. Challenge me, stretch me, and I hope you’ll let me challenge and stretch you. I’ll be alright if you disagree with 99.9% of the things I say. Heck, I’d be elated if you agreed with me 99.9% of the time!

So please, I beg of you, for the good of our future be nice to each other. We are all fighting our own battles. We all have something to say and contribute. Just do it with love and respect.

Life is Glamtastic (September's Glam Bag)

This one is going to be super quick and easy because I haven’t used three of the products yet!

This month’s bag itself is awesome. I used it on Saturday at the lake and loved it. Never thought I’d like a wristlet.

Nail polish: This is the last one from the Circus by Andrea line and the first one that I’ve used. Again, this is a winner! I’m rocking it this week. My only beef is that it is matte, but you would never guess that from the bottle. I added a top coat, problem solved! And P to the S, it didn’t leave bubbles. Hallelujah!

I can’t say enough good thing about the Carol’s Daughter Split End Sealer. This was like a gift from heaven. I’m almost ashamed to admit that I can’t remember when my last hair cut was. This little product has literally saved me another $100!

Sorry for the cell phone pic!

I have yet to try the lip gloss, eyes shadow or brush. They all look great, though. Can’t wait to use them.

This month kicked some major butt. Totally worth the $10. Head over to www.myglam.com (which is now ipsy) and get a subscription!
