Life in the Classroom

I mentioned last week that my class is in the middle of a huge space project.

There’s a spaceship in my room.

Teacher of the year, right here folks!

The best part of this beast of a unit is hearing all the things the kids say to each other. Or in the case of today’s story, the things they say at home.

Every morning I greet my students at the door and check in with their parents. You can imagine that over the years I’ve heard the gamut of randomness. The other day one mom stopped to tell me that he son was really excited about space and was thrilled about sharing his knowledge with the whole family. She continued to tell me that while giving her son a bath he posed this philosophical dilemma that I am sure has troubled many a four year old boy.

“Mom, did you know the sun is a huge burning ball of gas?”

(pause)

“I wonder if it smells like farts?”

Would you believe me if I told you that this particular student is by far the gassiest student in my class?

I love that your little guys sound exactly like my 8th graders! Today I had a kid ask me how food becomes poop.
